Love of Wisdom and the Search for Truth
It's official I've started my second semester of college. That is something I never thought I would say 14 years ago when I finished High School. Yet my plans were not God's plans and I find myself in a great opportunity. I am learning a great deal and find that college is fun and interesting (interesting and fun would have had a different meaning when I was 18).
My most interesting class is Philosophy. Philosophy defined in Webster’s Dictionary is- "the study of the principles underlying conduct, thought, and the nature of the universe". Basically the word philosophy means love of wisdom. Hey, who doesn’t love wisdom. Some might say we are all philosophers.
Philosophers have been asking questions for centuries. Questions like where does life come from and does man have an immortal soul. Yet no matter how many questions they ask or how many they, answer it just leads to more questions.
If the world started from a big explosion, then what caused the explosion? If all living things came from a single cell were did that first cell come from? Nothing can come from nothing and if there was nothing then how did we get here? The questions just keep coming there seems to be no real truth.
Some people have come to accept this and just live with a partial truth or a lie. If a answer is not completely true then it is a lie. Our parents teach us this at a very early age. How soon we forget what we are taught.
Christians on the other hand believe there is absolute truth, that truth can be found in the pages of the bible. You Have to look no further than Genesis chapter 2 to find the answers to the above questions. This is just the beginning of the truths of wisdom that can be found there.
In our life we must look for truths where truth can be found, in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He said "I am the way the truth and the life." (John 14:6 NKJ) " If You abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."(John 8:31-32 NKJ)
The truth of Jesus has set us free from the lies of this world. Not only the lies but also the questions. Does man have a immortal soul? Yes and it will last for eternity. Where? Where you decide. If you decide to believe the truth of God, then you will be with Him in heaven, but if you believe the lies of the world then with the Lair Satan in Hell.
Proverbs 9:10 says "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." (NKJ)
This brings us back to the question are we all philosophers? Yes. However we must make
sure are wisdom starts with the "fear of the Lord", not the lies of the world. We must trust in the truth of Jesus, and have faith we will (like the old song says) under stand it all "further along".
